Lucia Jumps Back In, Named New CCHA Commissioner

When Don Lucia retired as head coach of Minnesota a couple years ago, he knew he wasn’t going to be away from the game entirely.

After spending the last two seasons helping Minnesota’s and Alaska’s programs in various capacities, while shuttling between his homes in the Twin Cities and Fairbanks, Lucia has formally made his way back to college hockey by accepting the job as commissioner of the CCHA.

Imagine the disaster if someone like Max Domi, who has a pre-existing condition—diabetes—caught COVID while playing and, God forbid, died from it. Just shut it all down. Clearly the virus cannot be contained by the NHL’s protocols.

Yes, it’s a bigger risk for some players than others, and we’re probably all more worried about those players, but nobody is guaranteed to be fine—which just makes it even more urgent that the NHL shut it down.
