Nashville Predators 2 , Minnesota Wild 3 (OT): Overtime Curse Continues

The Nashville Predators played their first game after the holiday break Tuesday night to kick off a very important week for the team.

The Minnesota Wild came into the night on a 10-game win streak, and P.K. Subban was sidelined once again with an upper-body injury for Nashville. In other words, it wasn’t going to be an easy win for the team in gold.

It didn’t start well for Nashville. The Wild took advantage of the Predators inability to get off to a good start with a point shot that gets through Rinne. Nashville was held to just five shots in the first period as Minnesota continued to excel in limiting scoring chances.

The second period upped the excitement level of the game as Forsberg sniped one from the high slot to even the contest. The Wild would quiet the crowd soon after on a 3-on-2 rush after a bad change from Nashville.

The Predators momentum seemed to halt, but Reid Boucher made his mark as a Predator with a skillful finish while a defender was on his back. Nashville would finish the second with almost triple their shot total from the first frame.

In a pivotal third period, chances were exchanged by both teams, but neither could break the tie. Nashville came up with a huge penalty kill with under four minutes to play that was aided by a Ryan Ellis leg save. The game would head to overtime.

Nashville controlled the entire 3-on-3 session, but come up short as the Wild put home their first chance in overtime. It’s hard to complain about the Predators’ play in overtime lately. Just not getting the results.

The Predators will face the Chicago Blackhawks Thursday night in Nashville.

Random Observations

  • The Predators gave up the first goal? Some things never change.
  • I don’t care if he didn’t score. Forsberg’s between the legs shot was beautiful.
  • Only 5 shots in the first. Not ideal.
  • Forsberg’s wrist shot is top notch .
  • Nashville dominating the second period.
  • I typed that last bullet point three seconds before the Wild scored. Sorry.
  • Reid Boucher just earned him another game in a Predators jersey.
  • Pretty even third period. Overtime looms large.
  • Arvidsson loses his footing twice in three seconds. Just another day at the office.
  • Ryan Ellis was a goalie as a kid, right?/

OTF’s Super Duper Stars of the Game

  1. Filip Forsberg- For the between the legs shot alone, but he did tally the first goal. third in four games.
  2. Reid Boucher- He capitilized on his opportunity with a nice finish on a partial breakaway. Could find a home and fill depth scoring for Nashville.
  3. Viktor Arvidsson- He had 17,000 people chanting his name fter a whistle. Good enough for me.
