Nashville Predators vs. Ottawa Senators Preview: Pre-Christmas Road Trip

After losing to Nashville on Tuesday, the Senators faced off against the Detroit Red Wings on Friday and came out with a victory. They followed it up with a loss to the Canadiens on Saturday.

Ottawa Senators

As mentioned above, the Senators have won one game and lost one game since they left Nashville on Tuesday evening. They’re a team with tons of young talent but they’re not finding many ways to put W’s in the win column.

Mark Stone leads all forwards with 37 points (16 goals, 21 assists) and Thomas Chabot leads defenders with 35 points (9 goals, 26 assists). The Senators are 14-16-4 and sit second-to-last in the Atlantic.

It does appear that Bobby Ryan is back in the lineup after being out with a concussion last week. He was a -2 against Montreal on Saturday. Matt Duchene remains on IR.

Nashville Predators

The Predators secured a shootout win against New Jersey on Saturday. A Frederick Gaudreau goal looked to be the game-winner until Brian Boyle put in the tying goal for the Devils with less than 2 minutes remaining in the game. Ryan Johansen sealed the victory in the shootout.

The win was much-needed for young Juuse Saros. I’d expect to see Saros start again on this road trip with back-to-back to back games against the Senators and tomorrow against Chicago.

After two games with solid performances, the Johansen line and the Turris line might be shuffled a bit by Coach Laviolette. Kevin Fiala has shifted back into the “oh Lord” column while Ryan Hartman has continued to skate hard and create chances every shift.

The Jets and Flames sit tied at the top of the Western Conference, with the Predators just a point behind after sweeping their homestand. The Preds have a game in hand on Calgary but not on Winnipeg.

Memories and Feelings

  • I don’t need to re-hash the feelings behind that quick Ottawa goal on Monday. Luckily, our big Finnish netminder shut the door on the Senators after that. /
