Nashville Predators vs. Washington Capitals Preview: Break the Losing Streak

The Predators embarked on their inaugural Moms’ Trip yesterday. While we love seeing tons of posts, pictures, and mom interviews, the Predators might just need some motherly love to get themselves back in the winning column.

Nashville Predators

The Predators are in a funk. They’ve lost 6 straight, including 2 at home in front of a faithful Bridgestone Arena crowd.

The Predators, however, did manage to score on the power play against New York. I AM SHOCKED.

Filip Forsberg, Yannick Weber, and Colton Sissons remain on injured reserve. Nick Bonino potted his 7th and 8th goals of the season against the Rangers. We saw proof that Kevin Fiala plays better hockey when he’s scoring, but his streakiness and low confidence will persist until he finds himself on the scoresheet more often.

Expect to see Pekka Rinne take a game today and Juuse Saros take one tomorrow. Saros needs some confidence in his game, too.

Washington Capitals

There’s been no Cup hangover for the Washington Capitals. They’ve returned true to form this season. Captain Alex Ovechkin no longer has much to prove, but he’s been scoring at a ridiculous pace this season. He has 45 points on the season (29 goals, 16 assists) and is followed closely by Nicklas Backstrom with 43 (10 goals, 33 assists). John Carlson leads all Washington d-men with 37 points (6 goals, 31 assists).

Braden Holtby is holding down the net for Washington. He has a .915 SV% in 26 games for the Capitals. He’s now backed up by Pheonix Copley after RFA Philipp Grubauer was traded to the Colorado Avalanche.

Washington is comfortably at the top of the Metropolitan Division. They’re 5 points ahead of the second-place Columbus Blue Jackets.

Memories and Feelings

  • The only thing I feel right now is sheer frustration at this abysmal losing streak. /

Reasons to Watch

  • Will the Preds break the losing streak or make it seven in a row?/

Tonight’s Theme Song

“Stayin Alive” by the Bee Gees. The Preds have remained in playoff position in this current losing streak…so this is basically the only applicable song.

Tonight’s Drink of Choice

I randomly found Mango Blue Moon at Publix the other day. It’s pretty tasty. Try some. Or have a mimosa because of the early puck drop time?

How to Watch

Today’s game is at an extra-awesome time. Puck drop will be around 11:30 Central. You can catch the game on NHL Network, Sportsnet, or Fox Sports-TN. The radio call will be on 102.5 The Game.
