The P.K. Subban Sportsnet Interview: Part I

P.K. Subban sat down for a one-on-one interview with Eric Engels of Sportsnet following his trade. Here's part one.

Marya: I'm pretty sure trading P.K. Subban from the Montreal Canadiens counts as cruel and unusual punishment for whatever undisclosed crimes Marc Bergevin and Michel Therrien blame him for. He's clearly formed a strong bond with the city and the fans, and he's been run out of town.

The interview is a bit hard to watch. Subban says at the beginning that Engels is good to talk to, but it's still uncomfortable to see him asked about media accusations like donating a staggering amount of time and money to charity in order to make himself captain. He's extraordinarily gracious when talking about his coach and GM. As much as he’s resented for the spotlight that follows him around, he’s qualified to handle it in ways most people could never learn.

I'm looking forward to the second part of this interview and hope it covers more of his thoughts on his future here in Nashville.

Anish: When I first caught wind of this interview, my initial thought was, finally, we get to hear a more in-depth response from Subban himself on everything that went down. I was interested in hearing what he had to say about the Canadiens decision to trade him.

I watched the interview a couple of times, and all I could focus on was how calm and composed Subban was during it. He proved what we already know about him, and that is he is charismatic and knows how to talk to the media.

The one hard part to watch of this interview, as Marya mentioned earlier, was that fact that the media in Montreal questioned his intentions of donating to the hospital. The thought that anyone could accuse a player of making that kind of donation to a community in order to gain captaincy in the future is ridiculous to me. Subban says it best when talking about it, "people should want to help people."

All in all, watching this interview makes me that much more excited that he will now be residing in Smashville!
