Saturday’s Dump & Chase: Off-Rhythm

Last night’s recap was delayed for technical reasons, and we figured after midnight was a bad time to run it and expect anyone to read it, but it’ll be up in two hours for your Saturday morning reading pleasure!

In the meantime, we have these links.

‘Incredible’: Connor McDavid’s amazing goal stuns Hockey Twitter | Sportsnet.ca
Connor McDavid continues to have the cheat codes.

Columbus Blue Jackets’ Patrik Laine out 4-6 weeks with oblique strain | ESPN
Laine joins Max Domi, who is out after a positive COVID-19 test, on the unavailable list for the Jackets. Rough luck for the team as well as both players.

Price to return to Canadiens from NHL’s player assistance program on Monday | Sportsnet.ca
Best wishes to Price in his return.

Tampa Bay Lightning’s Mikhail Sergachev suspended two games for illegal check | ESPN
Well, it’s…something, I guess.

‘Captain of the community’: Senators finally put ‘C’ on Tkachuk | Sportsnet.ca
I was all set to make a remark about it sure being a choice to give the C to Brady Tkachuk explicitly for his attitude instead of Thomas Chabot for his, presumably, lack of making everyone in the world want to dump a drink over his head, but they did at least go on to say that Tkachuk is always nice to arena staff.

NHLPA board approves review of Kyle Beach’s 2010 allegations | ESPN
Good. I cannot imagine being in the NHLPA’s position at the time and doing nothing.

Doing ‘all the dirty jobs’ put ultimate team player Kevin Lowe in Hall of Fame | Sportsnet.ca
I don’t mean to imply that Lowe was a bad player, or not an important part of those Oilers teams, or doesn’t deserve to have his number retired, but come on. It’s 2021. Can we stop with the “there are good players, and then there are players you need to win, and [non-superstar player] is one of the players you need to win” shtick?

Say Lowe was an important part of the Oilers team, that he did things they needed done, all that. Acting like Gretzky didn’t help the Oilers win games doesn’t do anyone—Lowe included—any favors.
