Sunday’s Dump & Chase: Dead Air

Lightning add size with dirt-cheap Maroon deal | ProHockeyTalk
The Tampa Bay Lightning have made a signing! They signed a player! They– oh, it’s Patrick Maroon, not Brayden Point.

Man, what is up with the RFAs this summer? I certainly don’t blame players for looking to make as much money as they can before their bodies—and potentially their brains—give out, but the mass star RFA standoff this summer is very sudden.

Sharks will sink or swim based on goaltending | ProHockeyTalk
My sources tell me that Martin Jones was [checks notes] bad last year. I remember him turning in some desperately heroic performances in the 2016 Stanley Cup Final, but since then he’s been a lot more forgettable. Backup goalies for the former Kings are a risky bet.

With a headline like that, you’d expect their resident Wookie to come up, but he does so only briefly.

Just think, if he can get about thirty more points this coming season, he might get some Selke buzz!

That’s it for today, except that I’m still really excited about the two-point line experimented with at the Aurora Games. Someone—I think someone at hockey-graphs.com?—wrote something a few years ago about how a rule like that would affect the NHL, but I haven’t been able to find the article again this weekend. I do remember the author concluded that Shea Weber would have had a massive spike in points production over the period they were evaluating for comparison, which, yeah.

I’m not actually going to talk about the two-point line every weekend until the NHL implements it, but it’s a really slow news day. And maybe one of our readers remembers the same hockey-graphs(?) article!
