Thursday’s Dump & Chase: Wizardry

How does he continue to do it?

General Manager David Poile made two terrific deals yesterday. Matt Carle had significant success under Peter Laviolette previously, so perhaps reuniting the two can re-ignite Carle and help him obtain his lost form. If it does not work out, it is only a one year deal, and Anthony Bitetto should be ready to slide in. I’m not worried about two-bit’s future with the Predators, as he should be a mainstay on the blue line come next year. There are a lot of short-term contracts on the back end of the Predators’ blue line. He’ll get his keep sooner or later.

However, the deal that I love is Jarnkrok’s.

It has been well documented how Poile manages to sign players to more than reasonable contracts. The deal for Jarnkrok has great value. What I like about the deal so much is that it gives George McPhee, General Manager for the Las Vegas _______, more to think about when picking a Predator for his team. It’s no longer as clear-cut who he would take. Previously, it had been speculated that Craig Smith or Colin Wilson could be on their way to sin city, but will McPhee be able to pass up on Jarnkrok’s value?

If McPhee takes Jarnkrok, then Nashville retains to valuable middle-six pieces. If McPhee does not take Jarnkrok, then we just signed another Swede to a very team-friendly contract. I’m fine with either situation.

Six years, $12 million. If Vegas doesn’t take him, it’s a fine deal by me.
