Around the NHL
The Lightning awarded the 24 year old former 6th round pick a brand new deal, giving him the full eight years for $6.5 million a year. The young forward reinvented himself since leaving Chicago for Tampa, and has amassed 64 goals and 132 points in just over 200 games.
The Wings locked up another restricted free agent yesterday, this time with a one-year, $825,000 deal. He had career highs in goals (9), assists (11) and points (20) in 81 games, and has turned around his game on both ends of the rink to earn one more year in the Motor City.
Prepare to hear a lot about this Penguins team. They had a great offseason after hiring Kyle Dubas, jettisoning the Mikael Granlund deal and of course, landing Erik Karlsson. Is this the last ride for Crosby, Malkin, Letang – and maybe EK65 as well?
